Jocelyn Briones

I am a teacher by profession and a holder of a Master Degree in Language and Literature major in English, also a Doctor of Education. I have 19 years of teaching experience. I am also an author of English textbooks for Grade 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 pupils. Aside from teaching I also held administrative positions and became a subject specialist or English coordinator for six years. I also serve as resource speaker of varied academic topics to the teachers of different private schools here in Metro Manila and nearby provinces in the Philippines.

I believe I can serve your good school well with my predilection to contribute to the mission-vision of your school that centers on academic excellence and character formation.

More than anything else, I am available for immediate hiring.

By experience, I taught English in grade school for ten years, in high school for seven years, and in pre-college or in the technical-vocational school of De La Salle Zobel for two years.

Although a teacher of English Language and Literature for several years before I became an administrator, I was an English tutor to a group of Thais for one summer way back in 1982. I also tutored the family of my husband’s Japanese employer for a month, and another Japanese engineer in the company my husband was working with for another month or so in the 1990s. I likewise I experienced teaching English as Second Language to a group of Koreans in 2008 at De La Salle Zobel. As an EFL/ESL teacher, I provided engaging activities through the use of different approaches like the TPR or Total Physical Response, cooperative learning games, multiple intelligences, differentiated activities, and task-based activities. These task-based activities are usually performance tasks that call students to deliver an impromptu speech, do pubic speaking, engage in a debate or demonstrate interpretive or spoken-word poetry.

As an English teacher, I advocate high student engagement through interaction, scaffolding, and authentic use of the English language through real-life situations. I believe, as required by your school,  I have the competence and the heart for teaching English, ESL or EFL since this is the area where I received the most training or academic preparation and which I consider, modesty aside, my personal field of expertise. 

Given the opportunity to teach in your good school, I offer my expertise as a classroom manager competent in the use of zoom video conferencing tool, facilitator-orchestrator of task-based activities, and resource of relevant, verified information. I also vouch for my competence as a strong academic leader endowed with great people and excellent communication skills. With my qualifications and experience, I intend to be a proactive member of your school once accepted to teach.

I am a Bachelor of Arts graduate specialized in English. I am also a holder of a Master's degree in Language and Literature major in English and a Doctor of Education Major in Educational Management and Leadership.

I believe I am a good fit in any teaching position that requires specialization in English because of my relevant academic background.

My master's degree helped in honing my skills as a teacher for it taught me a wide repertoire of teaching strategies that I can use in the classroom to promote interaction and meaningful engagement. 

My doctoral degree provided insights about curriculum and instruction. My dissertation on learner-driven-performance task has given me a sturdy grasp of learner-agency and how constructive alignment can be achieved between and among learning outcomes, learning activities, and assessment.

With my educational background, I believe I am more than ready to meet your students and share with them what I know that they may become effective users of the English language which remains until today the lingua franca of success.
