The highest goal of meditation
To achieve self-realization, also known as God-realization, the ultimate aim of human existence, we should meditate. It is important to realize that Dhyana, or meditation, is merely a tool. It isn't the objective per se. Samadhi, or the superconscious state of mind, is the pinnacle of meditation. When in the state of samadhi, the mind is absolutely still and free of all thoughts.
Patanjali, the great sage, refers to this mental state as yoga. However, even the different levels of samadhi are merely a means to an end.
When the intellect is unwavering, the mind is at peace, and all senses are at rest, the highest state of divinity is attained.
Yoga has been defined as mental and sensory tranquility. A person who achieves it is liberated from illusion.

Why Meditate?
Meditation is the greatest gift you can give yourself in this life. Nothing
else can give you what meditation does. It presents you to who you are.
Beyond identification with the body, senses, mind, intellect, and ego, meditation awakens us to the actuality of who we are and allows us to experience it firsthand. We become aware of and experience our actual divine nature when we meditate.
