At Halkin Global, we partner with innovative global brands to connect them with outstanding talent. On behalf of our client, we are seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Junior Financial Controller or Senior Accountant join their growing Finance team.

The Assistant Controller will play a key leadership role in overseeing the company's accounting operations and inventory control functions within a fast-paced environment. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance with GAAP, while driving process improvements and scalability. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience from both public and private company environments and a deep understanding of inventory accounting and Wholesale and eCommerce accounting operations.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Reporting

• Lead and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, delivering financial statements in a timely manner,
• Prepare and review account reconciliations, supporting schedules and establish a control framework to ensure high integrity of financial statements,
• Ensure financial statements are in accordance with U.S. GAAP, ensuring accurate cut-off, revenue recognition, and compliance with accounting policies across all sales channels,
• Oversee accounting for eComm and wholesale operations, including but not limited to sales audit, wholesale revenue recognition, cash-to-order, fixed assets, and accruals.
• Manage annual external audit, providing samples and information needed to hit audit completion deadlines.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and internal controls.
• Manage tax affairs with external tax advisory,, including but not limited to Sales Tax filings and Income Tax filings.

Inventory Control & Cost Accounting

• Oversee all aspects of inventory accounting, including valuation, reserves, shrink, obsolescence, and cost of goods sold.
• Partner with operations to ensure all accounting around inventory is full and correct, including management and tracking of Vendor Deposits, GR/IR and Inventory In Transit account balances.
• Manage the landed cost process to ensure freight & duties capitalization is complete and accurate.
• Support physical inventory counts and cycle count programs in partnership with the Operations team.
• Develop and enhance inventory controls, reporting, and reconciliation processes.

Accounts Payable

• Oversee full AP cycle including vendor onboarding and payment processing.
• Ensure timely invoice approvals and accurate expense coding.
• Monitor cash disbursement controls and payment terms optimization.
• Maintain 3-way match controls for inventory purchases.
• Act as the primary user of Ramp, our AP tool.

Accounts Receivable

• Oversee billing and cash application processes.
• Partner with Sales Team to monitor customer deductions, chargebacks, and returns, booking accruals as needed.
• Partner with Sales Team on collections and credit risk management, maintaining allowance for doubtful accounts as needed.

Internal Controls & Process Improvement

• Help design, implement, and maintain strong internal controls, leveraging best practices.
• Identify opportunities to streamline accounting and inventory processes and improve efficiency.
• Support NetSuite system maintenance.
• Manage documentation of accounting policies and procedures.

Skills and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA strongly preferred)
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including a combination of public accounting and private company experience
• Prior experience in retail, consumer goods, or inventory-intensive environments required
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting
• Must have a deep understanding of Netsuite
• Deep understanding of inventory accounting with contract manufacturers and cost accounting principles
• Advanced Excel skills; ability to analyze and interpret large data sets
• Experience with google sheets a plus
• Outstanding English written and verbal communication — essential for working across global teams and with external vendors
• High attention to detail, accuracy, and problem-solving ability
• Adaptable and proactive with a strong sense of ownership and accountability
• Proactive, hands-on, and solutions-oriented mindset
