Chief Mechanic/Equipment Dispatcher is a supervisory and technical role responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and efficient deployment of an organization's fleet of vehicles and heavy equipment. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with leadership, scheduling, and administrative duties.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintenance and Repair Oversight
- Lead and supervise a team of mechanics, assigning tasks, managing workloads, and evaluating performance.
- Oversee and perform complex diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on various equipment (automotive, diesel, heavy machinery, hydraulic, electrical systems).
- Develop, implement, and manage preventive maintenance (PM) programs and schedules to ensure maximum reliability and availability of all assets.
- Conduct safety inspections and ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety regulations (e.g., OSHA guidelines).
- Provide emergency field assistance and towing/rescue operations for broken-down equipment as needed.
Equipment Dispatching and Coordination
- Coordinate the dispatching of vehicles, work crews, or equipment to appropriate job sites or locations based on schedules and immediate operational needs.
- Liaise with internal departments, supervisors, and customers to resolve problems, track equipment status, and ensure timely job completion.
- Prepare daily work schedules and adjust them as needed to accommodate emergencies or changing priorities.
- Use communication systems (radio, phone, computer software) to relay work orders and gather information from field personnel.
Administrative and Inventory Management
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance activities, repairs, parts usage, and work orders using computer software.
- Manage the inventory of spare parts, tools, and supplies, coordinating procurement with suppliers to ensure necessary items are available.
- Assist in budget preparation and cost control measures for the maintenance department.
Qualifications/Requirements
Must be an automotive graduate with TESDA certificate. With atleast 2-3 years of work experience related to construction equipment.
