- Diagnose, treat, and manage illnesses and injuries in animals under the organization's care
- Perform physical examinations, medical procedures, and minor surgeries as needed
- Develop and implement preventative healthcare programs (vaccinations, parasite control, nutrition)
- Prescribe medications and monitor treatment outcomes
- Ensure humane handling and ethical treatment of all animals
- Monitor animal behavior and well-being, recommending environmental or care improvements
- Establish and enforce animal care protocols and SOPs
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal veterinary and animal welfare regulations
- Maintain accurate medical records and reports
- Support audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews
- Advise and train staff on animal health, handling, and biosecurity practices
- Collaborate with operations, research, or care teams to support organizational goals
- Serve as the primary internal veterinary expert
- Contribute to policy development related to animal health and safety
- Evaluate vendors, supplies, and medical equipment
- Provide expert input on animal-related risk management and best practices

- Active veterinary license
