    Role Description

    This is a full-time remote role for a Solar Performance & Energy Yield Engineer. We are seeking a highly analytical and passionate Solar Performance & Energy Yield Engineer to take full ownership of our solar PV and BESS modeling ecosystem. You will be the internal subject matter expert on how our assets perform across different geographies, technologies, and climates. This is a "cradle-to-grave" technical role: you will build the initial energy models that justify our investments and refine those models using real-world SCADA data to optimize our operating fleet.

    Core Responsibilities

    1. Pre-Construction & Development Modeling

    • Energy Yield Assessments (EYA): Lead the development of high-probability energy production models ($P50, P90, P99$) for new project sites using PVSyst.
    • Design Optimization: Collaborate with the civil and electrical engineering teams to iterate on layouts (GCR, azimuth, tilt, tracking logic) to maximize NPV and LCOE.
    • Equipment Selection: Model the impact of various technologies (bifacial modules, string vs. central inverters, DC-to-AC ratios) on long-term degradation and clipping losses.

    2. Design Refinement & As-Built Validation

    • Model Accuracy: Update simulations as site-specific constraints (shading, topographical slopes, interconnection limits) are finalized during the EPC phase.
    • BESS Integration: Develop integrated solar+storage dispatch models to predict how battery cycling and state-of-charge management affect overall facility revenue and throughput.
    • Final "As-Built" Modeling: Create the definitive baseline model based on final construction data to serve as the benchmark for the O&M phase.

    3. Operational Performance Analysis & Optimization

    • Performance Ratio (PR) Analysis: Compare real-time production data against the "expected" model to identify underperformance, string-level outages, or excessive soiling.
    • Digital Twin Management: Maintain "Adjusted Models" that account for actual weather conditions (using onsite pyranometers/weather stations) to verify if the plant is meeting its contractual guarantees.
    • Root Cause Analysis: Provide technical support for field technicians by using modeling data to narrow down inverter faults (such as AFCI errors), transformer losses, or tracking failures.
    • Production Forecasting: Support the trading or grid-scheduling desk by refining short-term production forecasts based on historical model accuracy.

    Qualifications & Skills

    • Education: B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Physics, or a related quantitative field.
    • Expertise: 3–5+ years of direct and intensive experience specifically in solar PV performance modeling. Mastery of PVSyst is mandatory.
    • Technical Skills:

    Experience with Python for large-scale data analysis (e.g., using PVLib).

    Familiarity with meteorological data sources (Meteonorm, SolarGIS, NSRDB).

    • Analytical Mindset: A passion for "closing the loop"—you aren't just satisfied with a model; you want to see if the actual electrons match your math.
