Job Description Summary
An Project Estimator is responsible for analyzing projects plans, specifications, and related documents to create accurate cost estimates for constructions, manufacturing, or service based projects. The role requires a deep understanding of materials, labor, equipment and other factors to prepare competitive and profitable bids or budgets.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and analyze project documentation.
- Examine blueprints, drawings, and specifications to understand project scope and requirements.
- Identify potential costs risks and constructability issues.
- Prepare detailed and itemized cost estimates for materials, labor, equipment and subcontractor work.
- Use estimating software and database to produce accurate take-offs and pricing.
- Compile bid packages, proposals, and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, and supplier to obtain competitive quotes.
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, architects and clients to clarify project requirements.
- Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits and proposal presentations as needed.
- Maintain a database of historical cost data and project information.
- Provide regular reports and updates on estimate status, changes and assumptions.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Proven experience as an estimator in construction, manufacturing, or a related industry.
- Proficiency in estimating software.
- Strong math and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Quantity Surveying or a related field (preferred).
- 1-2 years of relevant estimating experience.
- Certification from a recognized body is a plus but not required.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Willing to start ASAP.
