    Center of Accounting and Innovation in the Public Sector is seeking a Ph.D. student in the following areas:
    • Design, implementation and use of accounting and management control systems and practices, hereunder digitalization of public sector services, as well as management control in inter-organizational collaborations and networks. (For this research theme, there is a requirement that applicants master a Scandinavian language.)

    Center for Banking and Finance is seeking a Ph.D. student in the following areas:
    • Risk management and investment management: The project may involve analyses of real assets, including real estate and infrastructure. Prospective candidates are expected to contribute to research using modern methods of quantitative analysis and modeling.
    • Sustainable finance and household finance: the project will focus on investment decisions of households in sustainable stocks. Prospective candidates are expected to exhibit strong computing skills.

    Center for Real Estate and Environmental Economics is seeking a Ph.D. student in the following areas:
    • Big data in Real Estate finance aims to develop and utilize Automated Valuation Models (AVM) and Explainable AI (XAI) associated with research on the housing market.
    • Housing and sustainability are divided into two subprojects. Sustainable housing forms aim to contribute knowledge on how to create more attractive homes and residential environments centrally in cities and towns, facilitating more environmentally friendly urban and town development. Household climate risk aims to investigate the impact of natural disasters on housing decisions, focusing on flood and landslide risk in Norway, which can have significant consequences for infrastructure, property, and human life.

Relevant areas may include national and international sporting events, for example, the challenges and impacts for the organizer(s), host region, and other actors, including issues related to sustainability. It can also cover areas such as the operation and organization of clubs, financial management, the interaction between the clubs and other stakeholders such as national and international federations, media, and sponsors, but also related areas.

    Duties of the position

    As a PhD candidate you develop a relevant research proposal under the guidance of a supervisor during the first three months of the employment period.

    An approved proposal including a project plan is prerequisite for admission to the PhD programme and further employment as a PhD candidate.

    The final thesis should contribute to the development of new scientific knowledge and meet international standards in the field. You are expected to contribute to international conferences and publish in international peer reviewed journals.

    Required Selection Criteria

    The PhD position's main objective is to qualify for work in research positions. The qualification requirement is completion of a master's degree or second degree (equivalent to 120 ECTS) with a strong academic background in Business Administration or equivalent education, with a grade of B or better according to NTNU's grading scale . Applicants with no letter grades from previous studies must have an equally good academic foundation.

    You need to submit a short project proposal which describes the proposed theme, thesis question, theory, methods, and data. Applications without a project proposal within one of the described research topics will not be evaluated.

    In addition, you must have good written and oral English skills. Please note that for some of the research projects, Scandinavian language is required.

    Candidates completing their master's degree in the Fall of 2024 are welcome to apply, but the master's degree must be obtained and documented before starting the position.

    Salary and conditions

    PhD candidates are remunerated from NOK per annum before tax. From the salary, 2 % is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund and NOK 400 for funds for organizational development initiatives.

    The period of employment is 3 years full-time (no teaching duties) or 4 years (with teaching duties).

    Appointment to a PhD position requires that you are admitted to the PhD programme in Economics and Management , within three months of employment, and that you participate in an organized PhD programme during the employment period.

    The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants , and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.
