About the Role:

Data Analytics Ventures Inc. (DAVI) is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel & Data Protection Officer (DPO) to lead and continuously strengthen the company's Privacy Management Program. This role is critical in ensuring DAVI's compliance with data privacy laws, regulations, and contractual obligations while enabling innovation and compliant business growth.

As both a legal advisor and privacy leader, you will serve as a trusted strategic partner to cross-functional teams—including product, data science, technology, information security, partnerships, business development, and risk. You will help embed privacy-by-design across the organization, proactively manage privacy risks, and serve as primary point of contact with regulators.

This position is ideal for a privacy professional who can translate complex legal requirements into practical, scalable solutions that support business objectives in a fast-paced, data-centric environment.

Key Responsibilities:

A. Data Protection Officer Responsibilities

• Serve as DAVI's DPO and data privacy subject matter expert, providing strategic, practical, and risk-based guidance on data protection compliance across the organization.
• Lead the design, implementation, and continuous enhancement of DAVI's Privacy Management Program in alignment with applicable laws, regulatory guidance, and industry best practices.
• Establish, implement, and maintain privacy governance frameworks, including policies, standards, procedures, and internal controls, and oversee compliance through audits, reviews, and ongoing monitoring.
• Monitor emerging privacy risks, regulatory developments, and evolving industry standards, and proactively update internal policies, controls, and processes as necessary.
• Embed privacy-by-design and privacy-by-default principles into products, services, systems, and business processes throughout their lifecycle.
• Lead and facilitate Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and related risk assessments to identify privacy risks, recommend mitigation measures, and monitor remediation to completion.
• Advise on and coordinate data breach and security incident response efforts, including incident investigation, legal and regulatory risk assessment, determination of notification obligations, and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
• Manage DAVI's Data Breach Notification Management System (DBNMS) account and ensure timely, accurate, and complete reporting to the National Privacy Commission (NPC).
• Act as the primary point of contact for the NPC and other data protection authorities, managing regulatory communications, inquiries, and engagements.
• Oversee and respond to data subject rights requests, privacy-related inquiries, and complaints, ensuring timely investigation, resolution, and proper documentation.
• Provide clear and actionable guidance to internal stakeholders on privacy obligations and data handling practices to support compliant business operations.
• Prepare and present periodic reports to the leadership team on the effectiveness of the Privacy Management Program, key risks, and issues requiring escalation.
• Lead organization-wide privacy awareness and training initiatives, including the development of learning materials for employees involved in data processing activities.
• Review, draft, and negotiate privacy and data security provisions in commercial agreements, including data processing and data sharing arrangements.
• Participate in and contribute to Data Council activities of the Gokongwei Group, ensuring alignment of DAVI's data privacy practices with group-wide data governance strategies and standards.

B. Legal Counsel Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and support across a broad range of corporate and commercial matters to enable DAVI's day-to-day operations, strategic initiatives, and special projects.
• Assist in the drafting, review, and negotiation of contracts and related documentation.
• Identify, assess, and advise on legal, regulatory, and compliance risks, delivering pragmatic, business-aligned solutions that support DAVI's commercial objectives.
• Partner closely with cross-functional teams to translate legal and regulatory requirements into clear, actionable guidance.
• Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of legal policies, templates, and playbooks to drive consistency, efficiency, and scalability.
• Support the Legal Team's overall objectives and deliverables, and undertake such other duties and projects as may be assigned by the Director of Legal & Compliance.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Law or Juris Doctor
• Member of the Bar in good standing; MCLE compliant
• Minimum of three (3) years of hands-on experience as a data privacy practitioner.
• Strong working knowledge of data privacy compliance, including the design, implementation, and operation of privacy management programs and execution of core DPO responsibilities.
• Proven ability to operationalize privacy controls and translate legal requirements into practical, actionable steps across the organization.
• Ability to work through ambiguity, solve complex issues, and navigate challenges with minimal supervision.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
• Highly structured and analytical, with the ability to deliver clear, concise, and well-reasoned guidance to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated track record of driving process improvements, implementing operational controls, and enhancing team and organizational performance.
