Below are some common duties and responsibilities of a server:

Greeting and Seating Customers

Welcome guests to the restaurant.

Escort them to their assigned table, ensuring they are comfortable.

Provide menus and explain any daily specials or promotions.

Taking Orders

Present the menu to customers and make recommendations.

Take food and drink orders accurately.

Answer questions about the menu, including ingredient or dietary concerns.

Input orders into the restaurant's point-of-sale (POS) system.

Serving Food and Drinks

Deliver food and beverages to customers in a timely manner.

Ensure food is presented well and all orders are correct.

Refill drinks and clear empty plates as needed.

Ensuring Customer Satisfaction

Check on customers during their meal to ensure everything is to their satisfaction.

Address and resolve any complaints or issues promptly and politely.

Provide additional service such as refills, condiments, or dessert recommendations.

Handling Payments

Present the bill to customers when they are ready to leave.

Process payments through cash, credit/debit cards, or other payment methods.

Make change, if necessary, and issue receipts.

Maintaining Cleanliness

Clean and set tables between guests.

Maintain a tidy and organized work area.

Ensure the dining area is free of debris or spills.

Collaborating with Team Members

Work closely with kitchen staff, bussers, and other servers to ensure efficient service.

Ensure proper handling of food and beverages.

Maintain a clean and safe environment for customers and staff.

Upselling and Promotions

Suggest menu items to increase sales, such as appetizers, drinks, or desserts.

Promote specials, seasonal items, or new menu offerings.
