    A Senior Business Development / Account Manager for Energy & Utilities owns growth for strategic accounts and market segments by developing leads and converting these into offerings and commercial value. This person builds long-term customer relationships, leads complex bids and negotiations, shapes go-to-market strategy for IT solutions and services, and coordinates cross-functional teams for successful delivery of projects and services.

    Key responsibilities

    • Strategic account planning — Develop and maintain account plans that map customer priorities, decision makers, procurement cycles, and growth opportunities.
    • Pipeline development — Source, qualify, and prioritize opportunities across solution and services offering of the company
    • Bid and proposal leadership — Lead multi-disciplinary proposal teams, define commercial terms, and ensure technical-commercial alignment.
    • Contract negotiation — Negotiate commercial terms, risk allocation, SLAs, and payment structures with legal and finance.
    • Stakeholder management — Build executive-level relationships with utilities, and key stakeholders of the client, company, and third-party partners
    • Market intelligence — Track the technology and regulatory trends relevant to the industry
    • Cross-functional coordination — Align sales, project delivery, and finance to ensure smooth handover and execution.
    • Revenue and margin ownership — Meet or exceed sales targets while protecting margins and managing financial performance risk of the account.
    • Customer success and retention — Drive adoption, upsell services, and manage escalations to preserve long-term value.
    • Reporting and forecasting — Maintain accurate CRM records, sales forecasts, and pipeline

    Critical skills and competencies

    Commercial and sector expertise

    • Energy domain knowledge — Effective understanding of generation, transmission, distribution, renewables, storage, and energy markets.
    • Utility procurement savvy — Familiar with tender processes, utility procurement cycles.
    • Financial acumen — Ability to build business cases, model cash flows, and evaluate project economics.

    Sales and negotiation

    • Complex deal structuring — Experience with multi-year contracts, performance guarantees, and risk-sharing models.
    • Consultative selling — Translate technical capabilities into customer outcomes and ROI.
    • Advanced negotiation — Close high-value deals while protecting company interests.

    Leadership and collaboration

    • Cross-functional influence — Lead without direct authority; coordinate engineering, legal, and delivery teams.
    • Stakeholder influence — Persuade C-suite and technical buyers; manage public-sector and private stakeholders.
    • Project orientation — Understand project delivery constraints and timelines.

    Communication and personal traits

    • Clear communicator — Presentations, proposals, and executive briefings with clarity and impact.
    • Resilience and adaptability — Navigate long sales cycles and shifting regulatory environments.
    • Ethical judgment — Maintain compliance and high integrity in regulated markets.

    Experience and qualifications

    • 8–12+ years in business development, account management, or commercial roles within energy, utilities, or related infrastructure.
    • Bachelor's degree in engineering, IT-related courses, Business, Energy Management, or equivalent; MBA or technical master's preferred.
    • (Optional) Certifications — Advantageous: PMP, CEM, energy market certifications, or industry-specific training.
    • Comfortable discussing technical solutions and interpreting technical proposals.
    • Hybrid with willingness to attend onsite to customers
