    The BESS Expert serves as the company's regional technical authority for Commercial & Industrial (C&I) and mid-scale solar-plus-storage projects across Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia. The role oversees the full project lifecycle—from feasibility and system design through EPC execution, commissioning, and long-term performance optimization.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Technical Leadership & System Design

    • Lead BESS application design for C&I use cases: peak shaving, TOU shifting, zero-export, ramp-rate control, and solar clipping capture.
    • Define battery sizing logic (cycles/day, C-rate, RTE, degradation, backup duration, grid constraints).
    • Conduct feasibility studies, energy modeling, and technical due diligence.
    • Develop SLDs, protection philosophy, and fire safety concepts in compliance with local grid codes (Vietnam QCVN/EVN, PH PEC, Indonesia PLN).
    • Perform Owner's Engineer-level review of EPC/OEM proposals and technical specifications.
    • Utilize simulation tools (e.g., Homer UL) to optimize system configuration and dispatch strategy.

    2. Cross-Functional & Commercial Support

    • Work closely with Development, Finance, Legal, PM, QA/QC, and O&M to ensure technical and commercial alignment.
    • Provide technical inputs to financial models (cycle life, degradation, usable energy, warranty limits, maintenance cost, RTE).
    • Support EPC/OEM negotiations on specifications, performance guarantees, and service agreements.
    • Identify project risks and mitigation strategies across three regional markets.

    3. Performance & Market Interface

    • Lead performance modeling, SCADA/EMS validation, and operational optimization.
    • Develop EMS logic and ensure interoperability with OEM systems.
    • Analyze degradation KPIs, DOD profiles, alarms, BMS behavior, and warranty compliance.
    • Ensure compliance with key standards such as UL 9540, NFPA 855, and International Electrotechnical Commission 62933.
    • Maintain understanding of market participation frameworks including Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines (IEMOP) and Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM).

    REQUIREMENTS:

    Formal Qualifications

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Power Systems, or a related field.
    • Minimum 7+ years in BESS design, deployment, and optimization, preferably in Southeast Asia
    • Proven track record of managing multi-country projects and working with diverse stakeholders.

    Experience, Skills and Knowledge

    • Expertise in battery technologies (Lithium-ion, Flow Batteries, etc.), grid integration, and energy modeling tools.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; proficiency in MS Project, Primavera P6, and advanced Excel.
    • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks, safety standards (UL 9540, NFPA 855, IEC 62933), and permitting processes.
    • Excellent communication and leadership skills for training and stakeholder engagement.[SR1]
    • Experience in using BESS software (e.g., HOMER) for energy modeling, system sizing, and performance assessment.
    • Proven track record of establishing and managing strong supply chain relationships to ensure reliability and efficiency.
