- Participate in projects related to Data Center migration & consolidation activities, focused on mission-critical Linux systems and services
- Drive project efforts related to migration of Linux servers (including troubleshooting, configuration and documentation)
- Define, prepare and migrate virtualized environment based on ESXi vSphere systems including vMotion.
- Solve complex systems and service problems by developing unique approaches to complex problems where diagnostic data is incomplete, absent, or contradictory, and where there may be no precedent or solution
- Effectively communicate with project management, team members, as well as IT partners and stakeholders
- Collaborate on technical projects and provide expert advice on technical initiatives
- Handle work priorities, technical decisions, and implementation procedures at project level
- Create and maintain project documentation in order to ensure smooth handover to operations team. Prepare documents related to change implementation (RFC)
- Participate in implementing project tasks during non-business hours in order to minimize impact on critical IT services & solutions
- Ensure system compliance with SYNLAB's security and privacy policies and other regulations such as NIST , HIPAA, GDPR, etc.
- Continually improve personal knowledge and skills relevant to current duties, through on the job experience, self-directed research or formal training
- Supporting the operations team as an 3rd-Level expert.
- 5+ years of experience with managing Linux and VMware in a large enterprise environment
- Solid knowledge of Linux distributions such as RHEL, CentOS, SuSE, Ubuntu
- Solid knowledge of network concepts
- Good understanding of key infrastructure solutions and concepts e.g. Active Directory, LDAP, Kerberos, SSSD, NFS/CIFS, Samba, NAS/SAN, etc.
- Experience with NetApp storage is a plus
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and good customer relations skills
- Ability to work and communicate effectively within a global IT environment with people having diverse skill levels and varying backgrounds
- Personal initiative and self-discipline
- Reasonable knowledge of current hardware and software technologies and its uses
- Able to work with minimum supervision as part of project team
- Knowledge in scripting e.g. bash, perl
- Experience with Linux administration using automation tools such as Ansible
- Experience with Linux infrastructure management tools such as RedHat Satellite is a plus
- Experience with RDBMS (e.g. Oracle/MySQL/MariaDB) administration on Linux is a plus
- Linux and/or VMware certification is a plus
